New Yorkley Village Hall

It’s great that Yorkley will be having a new village hall. The Green Hut is clearly well past it’s sell by date and has needed replacing for a long time.

Yorkley has been awarded half a million pounds by the Big Lottery Fund to build a new hall which will be the focus for village activities. It’s hoped that the new building will be ready to be used by the Summer of 2015. Find out more about the project at

The village of Yorkley is situated in Gloucestershire on the edge of the Forest of Dean, a couple of miles North of Lydney. Cinderford is about 8 miles away. It has a population of about 1160. It was once a mining area, and mining was a major source of employment in the area

Yorkley is on a hill and is about 600 feet high so enjoys great views of the Cotswolds and the River Severn in a southerly direction and also over to Wales and the Brecon Beacons, which are around 30 miles away. Yorkley

There is forest to the north of the village and agricultural land in the south.

The village has a football and cricket team, a primary school, shops and 2 pubs.
