Village Agent West Dean Area Update

BEFRIENDERS NEEDED

•  CAN you spare an hour per week to go and talk to someone in their own home?
Age Concern Forest needs volunteer befrienders. FFI contact Age
Concern 01594 845621.

DISABILITY RIGHTS UK

•  FROM January 2012 a new charity comes into being: Disability Rights
UK, made up of three former charities: The National Centre for Independent
Living, Radar and the Disability Alliance.

FOREST LINKLINE

•    MAY I remind older residents, particularly those living alone, that Forest Linkline is available to you and operates from the Forest of Dean District Council. Linkline consists of a base unit by your landline telephone. In emergency you can press the body-worn trigger and this will call the monitoring centre where your details are held. Help from a trained operator is available 24 hours per day and 365 days per year.
A representative from Linkline will call and explain the system to you in your own home completely without obligation. God forbid any of you would have a fall or be taken ill in your home, but if you are, this service is literally a life saver.
If you are interested, please contact me on 07776 245 712, or call:
Linkline direct, Deb Hughes,
Operations Manager,
01594 812505.
Mike Morgan. Village Agent, West Dean, Coleford, Cinderford,
Ruspidge and Lydney.   Tel: 07776 245 712.

What are Village Agents?

Village Agents try to provide easier access to services and information for the over fifties.   In reality we act as signposts to put clients in touch with people or organisations who may be able to help with their particular problems.

Among the services we are able to connect with are the Fire Home Safety Officers from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, who can come to your home at a time and date convenient to you, and fit free smoke alarms as required and carry out fire safety checks in your homes. The Care and Repair Service who can undertake small jobs such as fitting security door chains to your external doors or fitting shelving and other small works in your home, providing it is not at height.

Village Agents have contacts with services such as the Forest of Dean CAB, Forest of Dean Age Concern, various volunteer transport services such as Dial a Ride or Bream Transport. We can find services that will help with benefits and other claims.

Many of you may not know that there is a service run via the District Council which provides Cardiac Rehabilitation exercise classes at various local venues and also runs falls prevention classes as well. These last two services must be with the consent and referral of your own <5P.   Village Agent support services such as luncheon clubs and will assist in setting up such clubs with help from the 'In Touch' group at Gloucestershire Rural Community Council (GRCC), for whom we all work.

If you wish to contact me in confidence for help with any problems or to be directed to a particular service, please telephone me on number 07776 245712 or email:mike@communityagents.grcc.org.uk.

All Village Agents have CRB (Police) clearance so that we can visit you in the privacy of your own home if you wish.

Should anyone wish me to visit their club or organisation to talk about this work, please contact me as listed above.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Mike Morgan Village Agent, West Dean Area.
