The Village Hall Committee planted a Sessile Oak on Friday,
20th November, to commemorate the Centenary of Yorkley Village School. Mark
Harper, our local MP, came along and spent the morning at the school and
then marched up the road with all 137 children, teachers and parents.
The idea came about
from the Tree Gazing Walk during the Festival given by Tony Titchen, a well
known Dendrologist and Botanist. He recommended the Sessile Oak as
appropriate for the area and the committee managed to track one down.
There was a very short
ceremony and the tree well planted, everyone retired to the hall for coffee
and biscuits and squash for the children. It was a great event.
