Do you know someone who qualifies as a local hero? If so we
would like to hear from you with all the details.
The Yorkley Village website is going to start the ball
rolling by including Paul Stares who suffered an horrendous road accident 15
years ago & broke his back, neck, and as he puts it, "a few other things,"
but has overcome the resulting disability to lead a positive life, and is an
inspiration to others in the same situation.
Many
Yorkleyites in their thirties, will remember Paul Stares (Piffer) who lived
at Yorkley Slade and attended Yorkley Primary School & Whitecross School,
Lydney.
This is
Paul completing his attempt at the world's longest wheelie in a wheelchair.
After 3 hours 15 minutes He completed 8.1 miles going round the gym at
St Johns' Sports Centre in Worcester. This meant he secured a new world
record, taking it from an American who had set the record at 6.1 miles. He
sends thanks to all his friends and family who kept him motivated as he went
round and round. he hopes that this inspires others to do something similar.
Paul is
seen here accompanied by his life-long friend, Simon Thomas (Chunky) also a
Yorkleyite, as he laps the course.
